Run To The Sun is coming back after 10 years! This would be the 30th running of this iconic Maui event starting in Kahului, ending at the top of Haleakala, covering 36.2 miles and 10,023 feet.

PERMITS PENDING - MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 2019!
This is a high altitude finish on the scenic and surreal mountain of Haleakala on the island of Maui, Hawaii. The course is run on paved roads starting in Kahului then through the old sugar cane field roads and up to the summit of Haleakala.
The 51k or 36.2 mile course is exposed, starting off warm in the early morning and usually dry. The weather will range from warm at the start to breezy and more severe weather at the top of the mountain. We have experienced all weather types, but you can usually expect sunny, cool weather at the top and trade winds at the start. Temperatures usually range from high 70's at the start to mid 50's once you're in the National Park.
There will be 18 aid stations along the course. See map below for aid station locations. Medical kits will be at aid stations once you're on Crater Road, with foot care and the usual supplies including anti-chafe and sunscreen lotion. The aid stations will be in contact with the finish line and the sag wagon. AMR (American Medical Response) will be on hand for any emergency situations and medical care.

INDIVIDUAL RUNNERS - The event will be limited to 185 runners. Because of the challenge of this run, runners that signup may be contacted by the Race Director.
Teams registration is limited to 15. Each team must have 3 runners. Team access is only allowed at the following aid stations and not within 100 feet of the aid stations: The hand off points will be at the following aid stations (AS):
Start to AS 3 7.3 miles
AS 3 to AS 5 5.6 Miles
AS 5 to AS 8 6.5 Miles
AS 8 to AS 11 5.6 Miles
AS 11 to AS 17 7.0 Miles
AS 17 to Summit 4.2 Miles
Relay teams may run in any order as long as each runner completes 2 legs. If you run in a straight rotation:
Runner A will run 12.9 miles
Runner B will run 12.6 miles
Runner C will run 10.7 miles
Post Race Celebration & Awards
Hawaiian Canoe Club will be hosting our awards and refreshments in Kahului. There will be post-race celebration with food, drinks and snacks for all runners. Awards will be announced at 4:30 pm.

TIME LIMITS AND CUT OFF TIMES
National Park Entry Booth - 11:00 am
Event Cut Off Time - 2:30 pm
As part of our agreement with Haleakala National Park there will be a Park Ranger and a RTTS volunteer at the National Park Entry Booth to ensure runner access to the park. Runner access is prepaid by the event and, in accordance with the event and the National Park, runners must pay the park entry fee if they arrive at the National Park Entry Booth after 11:00 am. There will be no prepaid entry for runners after 11:00 am.
There is a 10 hour time limit for the event (which equals a 16.67 minute per mile pace) at which time the event set up, staff & volunteers must be leave the summit at 2:30 pm with no exceptions. If you are not at the summit by 2:30 pm you will be picked up as we are leaving the summit. This is the agreement we accepted with Haleakala National Park.
Drop bags will be available at packet pickup and labeled with the runners name, race number and drop bag number. Drop bags need to be brought to the start line on race morning.
Drop Bag #1 will be taken to the Ranger Station past the National Park Entry Booth.
Drop Bag #2 will be taken to the finish Line area at the summit.
EXCESS ITEM DROP OFF - The old Sunrise Market AS - 6
Drop off any excess items you're not wanting to carry to the top of Haleakala (headlamps, etc.). Bags will be available for your items at this location. Volunteers will transport these bags to the Hawaiian Canoe Club and it will be available at 4:30 pm for pickup.
INDIVIDUAL RUNNER SUPPORT
Runners are allowed to have individual support along the course. However, due to the limited number of pullouts, little to no shoulders and blind corners, individual runner support access is not allowed within 100 feet of any aid stations. Please observe applicable traffic laws as well as common decency when parking.

REFUND / CANCELLATION POLICY
There will be no refunds if you are not able to participate unless there is a runner on the wait list that will replace your entry. If we are able to fill your spot with another runner on the wait list you will be issued a refund minus any registration fees. Rollovers or transfers to another event will also not be allowed.
Registration is non-transferable. Each runner must run with a bib assigned to their name.
